Spice Up Your New Year's Eve Champagne

New Year's is almost here and that means PARTY!

New Year's Eve is one of the biggest party nights and the staple of the night is CHAMPAGNE. So, we wanted to give you a couple of tips we found on how to spice up champagne for the big night.

Mandarin Cocktail:
1 ounce of mandarin liqueur
4 ounces champagne
Clementine peel, for garnish

Pour liqueur into a champagne flute; top with champagne. Twist clementine peel over glass and gently drop into cocktail (Pictured above).

Lavender Champagne:
1/2 cup sugar
1 tablespoon dried lavender
4 bottles (750 mL) dry champagne or sparkling wine, chilled
Fresh lavender springs, for garnish
(Serves 16)

Bring sugar and 1/2 cup water to boil in a saucepan, stirring to dissolve sugar. Stir in dried lavender. Remove from heat. Let cool completely. Strain out lavender. Refrigerate syrup until ready to serve (up to 1 month).

Pour about 6 ounces champagne and 1 1/2 teaspoons syrup into each flute. Garnish each with lavender sprig (pictured above).

Champagne with Grapes:
Thread grapes onto a skewer and serve in each glass of champagne (pictured above).
In Spain, revelers mark the new year by quickly eating a dozen grapes at midnight. The fruit is said to be the predictor of the year ahead. Each sweet grape represents a good month, each sour grape a less-than-lucky one. Party idea - try and play the game with your guests!

Do You Want To Smell Like Your College?

Masik has created a line of "collegiate fragrances." Their first 2 scents are University of North Carolina and Penn State University. One wonders... what does my University smell like?!

Well... "UNC for women is a refreshing, airy and sparkling fragrance with soft base notes evoking the beauty, romance and Southern charm of Carolina’s Old Well. The top notes sparkle with lychee champagne accord. Lush jasmine and rose bring warmth and tenderness to the middle notes. The base notes end with sheer vanilla and amber woods. A light, fresh and feminine translation of Carolina Blue for the Carolina woman."

At first, we thought these fragrances were hilarious and a bit ridiculous. But, after additional consideration we thought it would make a great gift for die hard UNC fans and Georgia fans (coming soon), which there are TONS of! Click here to learn more about Masik and their line of "collegiate fragrances."

Tragic News - Caylee Anthony's Death Confirmed

The search for missing toddler Caylee Anthony has come to a tragic end. Yesterday, authorities in Orlando confirmed that the skeletal remains found 3/10 of a mile away from the Anthony home were in fact the remains of toddler Caylee Anthony.

Dr. G. stated, "With regret, I'm here to inform you that the skeletal remains found on December 11th are those of missing toddler Caylee Anthony. The cause of death will be listed 'homicide by undetermined means.'"

This has been a horrific ordeal for everyone involved and the outcome is heart breaking. Our thoughts go out to all who are suffering this tragic loss...

Confessions of a Shopaholic Movie Trailer

Watch the Confessions of a Shopaholic movie trailer below!

We cannot wait for this movie to come out February 13, 2009 (February 13 also happens to be the first day of New York Fashion week). Patricia Field, Sex and the City stylist, is styling this movie! With Patricia Field on board, we know the featured fashions are going to be cutting edge and fabulous! Additionally, Isla Fisher is the star of this movie and she is absolutely hilarious and adorable. So, mark you calendars for February 13!

P&G Advertising

Chairman and CEO of Proctor & Gamble Co., A.G. Lafley, gave all media buyers, ad directors, publicists, etc. heightened anxiety and stress when he told analysts,

"This media environment is a big 'O' opportunity for us, because we're the biggest advertiser in a lot of these countries, and we can just walk in and tear up the contract."

P&G spent $8.7 billion on advertising in fiscal 2008! Their current advertising spending in the first 9 months of the current fiscal year has declined to $2.2 billion...

We are just in shock that they ever spent that many BILLIONS of dollars on advertising! What do you think of P&G's ad spending and of Lafley's daring comment?

Thread Winter Park

Hanukkah is Almost Here!

Hanukkah is quickly approaching and with the holiday comes 8 nights of lighting candles. Instead of having match boxes lying all around the house or big lighters, Martha Stewart has come up with a great match box decorating idea! Now your match boxes lying around the house or sitting out by the menorah will look special and decorative. Here is what to do...

Tools and Materials:
Kitchen matchboxes
Blue, silver, and white scrapbooking or wrapping paper
Utility knife
Glue stick
Transparent tape

Covered Matchboxes How-To:
Cut a strip of blue scrapbooking or wrapping paper to fit around a matchbox. Glue on stripes in coordinating colors, if desired; wrap paper around box, and affix using a glue stick. Glue smaller strips of paper over the exposed ends. For a large carton, attach a pull by taping a piece of looped ribbon to the bottom of the inside of the box. If you like, embellish with a Star of David cutout.

(The final creation is pictured above)

TIME MAGAZINE PERSON OF THE YEAR

Time Magazine has just announced that BARACK OBAMA is this year's Time Person of the Year! The announcement on the Today Show focused on his commitment to the American people, the economy, and the fact that he has and will continue to deliver on his promises.

Sarah Palin did make the final 5, in fact she was #4, but Barack Obama beat her to the punch! What do YOU think about Barack winning this title? Is our next President worthy of this honor, or does he need some time to prove himself? Post your thoughts under "comments" and pick up your Time Magazine Person of the Year edition as soon as it hits stands!

Bomb Scare at Printemps Department Store in France

A package containing what was thought to be dynamite was found yesterday morning in the Printemps department store in France. This scare forced a temporary evacuation of the landmark destination at the height of the holiday season.

The tip was sent via letter to the French news agency by a group called the Afghan Revolutionary Front. The letter demanded the withdrawal of French troops in Afghanistan.

The public's opinion... "it doesn't scare me, I have no anxiety at all." It seems that French shoppers will NOT be deterred from completing their holiday shopping at any cost...

What Should Barack Obama Wear?!

President elect Barack Obama will wear a Hart Schaffner Marx single-button, notch lapel tuxedo for the evening festivities on Inauguration Day, January 20th.

However, this isn't stopping tons of other designers from sketching what they think Barack Obama should wear.

Take a look at two of the designs, pictured above, by Richard James and Tommy Hilfiger.

How-To: Decorative Pine-cones

A great decorative addition to your home during the holidays are pine-cones. We have a great and easy tip on how to prepare pine-cones with a special kick.

What you will need:
Pine-cones: Try to pick up pine-cones around the yard or anywhere else you can find them outside.
Silver and gold spray paint: you can get this at your local hardware store or art store

What to do:
Spray each pine-cone with the different colors of spray paint, let them dry and VOILA!

This is really easy to do and makes a great centerpiece on any table. Take a look at the pine-cones that we created in the picture above.

Is it Caylee Anthony?

Living in Orlando, the horrific story of the missing toddler, Caylee Anthony, has surrounded us for months. Everyone around the Country has felt great pain for the family and the toddler, but at the same time have been wondering, where is she, what happened, and did Casey Anthony do it?

Well... soon we might have those unfortunate answers. Yesterday, the remains of what is confirmed to be a small child was found 3/10 of a mile away from the Anthony home. The remains were discovered by a County employee in the woods near the Anthony home. The employee picked up a garbage bag and a skull popped out. There is no official confirmation and DNA will be tested, but the head Equusearch investigator states, "I feel it's Caylee."

This is horrible and painful news for all and our thoughts go out to the grieving family. Regardless of the fact that there has been no confirmation, this is an unthinkable ordeal to experience and we cannot even begin to image their pain. We will be waiting and watching along with the rest of America...

The AURORA Collection - Rare and Colorful DIAMONDS

The Aurora collection is now on display at London's Natural History Museum! The Aurora collection is composed of 296 colored diamonds with a 267.45 carat weight and has been collected and selected over 25 years by Alan Bronstein, an American dealer and gemologist.

Bronstein says, "It was like seeing a rainbow," of his initial discovery in 1980 of a canary yellow diamond. Bronstein thinks of the stones not just as valuable, but as "the diversity of nature" and says that "the true value of a collection is sharing it with as many people who are interested to experience nature's diversity of expression."

How-To Gingerbread House

Do you make a gingerbread house for the holidays? We made a small one this year from a kit that was bought at our local supermarket, but we found a really easy how-to gingerbread house on marthastewart.com.

Cookie Cottage How-To
1. With a serrated knife, saw a graham cracker into 2 squares. Saw off top corners of another cracker to create a peaked roof; make 2 (this step is pictured above).

2. Pipe icing onto bottom and straight edges of a peaked piece. Place on an upside-down paper plate; use a small object, such as a spice jar, to prop it up. Repeat to pipe icing onto edges of a square piece, and adhere it to peaked cracker. Remove spice jar, and adhere other pieces with icing.

3. Saw a cracker into 2 squares for the roof. If desired, spread icing onto roof pieces and decorate with candy; let dry. Pipe icing onto top edges of house, and adhere roof pieces. To display, place plates on a tray and cover with shredded coconut snow.

Oprah - embarrassed about her big weight gain

The headline in the new issue of Oprah magazine says, "How Did I Let This Happen Again?"

It is no secret to anyone that Oprah has publicly fought her weight for years, but she is getting into more detail now about how she managed to gain 40 pounds in 4 years, reaching 200 pounds. She is quite candid saying, "I'm mad at myself. I'm embarrassed."

Oprah says that she took herself off of her priority list, suffered a thyroid problem, missed meditation sessions, stopped working out, and didn't eat right. Oprah has been so upset about the weight gain, that until now, she hasn't shot any full body magazine covers of herself.

Her overall message to readers is not about gaining and losing weight, "it's losing and regaining control of your life." We will just have to wait and see how and if Oprah is able to regain control of her life and fight the weight back off.  It shouldn't be that difficult with personal chefs, personal trainers, and anything else she could want...

Heidi & Spencer - They are just TOO much!

We have previously reported on the marriage of Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt, reality television "stars." Since their marriage they have gone on crazy media rounds trying to steal as much attention as possible with bogus claims and ridiculous antics.

We were always a little ugh about the pair, but NOW they have just taken it TOO far! A special note to Heidi - what the heck is wrong with you?! WAKE UP!

To give you an example of what we are talking about take a look at some of their ridiculous staged photos courtesy of popsugar. Warning: try not to scream... FAKE! And these are much better than their bathing suit shots...

Beyonce - Single Ladies Video

Everyone has been talking about Beyonce's new video for one of her new singles, "Single Ladies." It has become a Saturday Night Live parody and Perez Hilton and Katy Perry have also created a video imitating the video. You know you've made an impact when SNL and Perez Hilton are bothering to imitate you!

The dance moves are definitely interesting and different, but her message follows her typical GO GIRL anthems from the past with her "if you like it then you should have put a ring on it."

What do you think about her video?

LOVE it
It is HILARIOUS
HATE it - she is ridiculous

Let us know what you think by posting your thoughts under "comments."

Hanukah: "Decked-Out Dreidels"

Martha Stewart has come up with a fabulous Hanukah decorating idea! She has created a festive and sparkly Hanukah centerpiece.

Get a bunch of plain wooden dreidels, varying in sizes.
1. Holding each dreidel by its handle, brush all but 1 side with clear drying white glue.
2. Sprinkle with glitter, and let the dreidel rest on the plain side. Once dry, glue and glitter the plain side of the dreidel and handle; let dry.
3. Arrange dreidels in large glass containers.
4. VOILA!

*Centerpiece is pictured above

This creation is easy and will definitely have your guests saying ohh and ahh!

Madonna for Louis Vuitton Ad Campaign

Madonna will be the new star of the next Louis Vuitton ad campaigns. Marc Jacobs suggested Madonna for the ad campaign because he had just seen her concert the night before in Paris and was completely blown away by her energy and what she had to say.

Marc Jacobs messaged Madonna from his Blackberry and 5 minutes later she responded "I'd love to." Oh what we would without our Blackberry phones...
